This one is for Vince and Gord because we were just talking about this yesterday.
Who knew that Japan had a bull ring? Hands up. Anyone? Bueller?
On May 1, 2013, on the tiny southern isle of Tokunoshima (a part of Kagoshima-ken) a bull gored and killed a 40-year-old man.
Tomi Rikiya was showing off the 1,100 kilogram (2425 pound) beast to friends as he tried to encourage it to leave the bull ring, when the bull stuck him with its horns. He died two hours later in hospital.
According to the island's bullfighting association, this very same bull had attacked Tomi's father in early April, breaking his ribs.
Sometimes, senor... the bull... she no always lose. And, if you know that meatball of a joke, congratulations. If not... see HERE. I first heard this one about 35 years ago, and was saving it for just such an occasion. That poor Spanish accent for the Mexican version of the joke was how I recall the punchline.
Anyhow, in case YOU want to see a bull defeat a man in a bullfighting exhibition in Japan, note that Tokunoshima is a tiny place, some 104.87 km2 (40.49 sq mi) in size, with a 2008 population of 12,656. Or... 12,655 in 2013.
Sorry. Stupid is, as stupid does. No pity from me.
Ole,
Andrew Joseph
