Mike Rogers, of Marketing Japan fame, and I have been long-distance friends for about a year-and-a-half now.
We read each other's blogs, and comment back and forth about life as need be, and one day we'll meet and hate each other's guts or get stupidly drunk while laughing about everything we have done and will do when I'm there.
In the meantime, Mike and I are both fans of LEGO, and both have fun with it with our sons.
Mike knows I'm building a whacked out version of the LEGO architecture series kit of the Tokyo Imperial Hotel originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He designed quite a few buildings in Japan, and you can read about that if you click on his name in the previous sentence.
In fact... he knew a few weeks ago - even before I knew I was going to build it.
On a visit to the Tokyo American Club a couple of weeks ago, Mike noticed the rocks in the photo there - and said "Gee! I should take a photo."
Proving that everything happens for a reason, Mike presented the photo to me. That's it in the photo above. That's kismet!
In the photo directly above - that's my version of the Tokyo Imperial Hotel - Day 2 of my build.
Yes... that image in the background of the build shows elusive little old me, holding my son Hudson, who sure looks cute and all-knowing.
Day 1 of the build is HERE.
It's coming along nicely. I'm having a bugger of a time finding a few pieces, and when I can't, I come up with alternatives, which makes it more of a challenge and thus more fun.
If there's anything I've learned from this stupid thing called life - the more it's a challenge, the greater the reward.
Oh - two more things: There's an alien LEGO figure perched on the back wall of the build placed there surreptitiously by my son. I noticed it just now as I was ready to post this blog.
And two - you can see a great photo of him enjoying a burger at my buddies place in Alliston, Ont. called the Bistro Burger Joint, which you can see on their Facebook page HERE.
Chill,
Andrew Joseph
