Beneath the soft skin, silky smooth hair, killer legs and and knock-out body of Matsuo Yukimi (surname first), beats the heart of a comicbook-loving nerd. And I'm in love.
Yes, the newly elected 2013 Miss Universe Japan not only loves to read mange (comic books), she likes to write and draw them.
Ahh - a double threat: writer and artist... oh yeah, and female. That's a triple threat. Oh, and an ultra-hot babe - that's a quadruple threat. And she likes guys - quintuple threat! And she's representing Japan in the 2013 Miss Universe pageant - sextuple threat! I mean sixtuple. Hextuple? I hate English.
Anyhow, best of all, she's not afraid to tell people she likes manga! Scha-winnngggg! Actually, I already started the scha-winnnnggging at the time I designated her a triple threat. I'm easy - tell everybody.
Yes, it's that lonely in the male dominated comic-book industry, which was why I fell in love with damn near every female I came across (so to speak) in the biz.
Meet Yukimi.
Born in 1987, she's 25-years-old, so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hand or whatever in fathering this Supercute comicbook geek.
Standing 1.73 meters (5'-8") - (woof-woof!) (pant-pant - something-something with my pants), she has brown eyes and black hair and proves once and for all that not all comic book female characters are impossible representations of the female form.
I know, I know... a lot of women are that height and have brown eyes and black hair. But, let's put it this way... if she was a comic book, she would be a real page turner. Or tear jerker. Or (add your own joke HERE).
While I freely admit that when I lived in Japan between 1990-93, I dated women in Japan who were as pretty as Yumiki, and, in 2013, I am perfectly willing to do so again.
Yukimi is from Mie-ken (Mei Prefecture - Mei? You certainly can!), and was crowned Miss Universe Japan 2013 at the 16th Miss Universe Japan beauty contest on March 4, 2013 - and it beats me why the hell I wasn't all over this story at that time - why was I writing about fish?
Anyhow, Yukimi says that since she has achieved one of her goals of winning the Miss Japan contest, she has now set her sights on becoming a professional serialized manga artist. That's funny. I want to be a serialized manga writer. Yukimi-chan, we should work together several hours a day and night.
However, she does acknowledge that being Miss Universe Japan will take up some of her valuable creating time (I know the feeling), so she probably won't be able to grip many pencils for the foreseeable future.
Yukimi says her manga artist role models are Yazawa Ai (of NANA and Paradise Kiss fame) and Anno Moyoco (who does Sakuran and Sugar Sugar Rune) - both surname first - as people she respects for drawing a beautiful female form.
Uh yeah... here's a drawing by Yumiki...
And another:
Hmmm... her style is pretty damn good. Of course - and here's the writer in me coming out - to be a manga or comic book artist: there are two big fundamentals one requires:
1) Can you draw sequentially?
2) Beautiful drawing - how long did it take you?
If Yumiki is half as successful in the beauty pageant world, as she appears to be artistically, Japan will do all right at this years 2013 Miss Universe competition at an as-yet-to-be-announced location.
So... what's Yumiki like? Well, when asked by the Mainichi Daily News what type of person she likes (because every single guy and lesbian in Japan and global Japanophile wants to know), she answered: "someone who likes manga."
Well... that's hardly narrowing it down. Yumiki, if you were to pick your ideal man from Japan's manga books, who would you choose?
Folks, Yumiki hardly batted a beautiful eyelash before blurting out an already formalized answer, imply she had thought about this a long time before the newspapers ever asked: she said her ideal man would be similar to the character Leorio from Hunter x Hunter (pictured below).
Yukimi was asked why she wanted to get into manga, and I'll admit she surprised me with her answer: "My grades weren't all that great, and my physical skills weren't the best either. The one thing that I would be complimented on by my relatives were the illustrations I drew... I'm not very good at talking a lot, so I hoped I could convey my feelings by drawing manga. I showed my friends my illustrations to show them how I felt. That was about 5th grade."
Welcome to Japan. Life decisions based on physical and metal attributes at the age of 10. Now look at her. She's frickin' Miss Universe Japan! I think her physical attributes have filled out a bit.
She's not good at talking? That's every two-dimensional guy's dream!
Yukimi says she only became a model to get her family to chillax - Like look mum, I have a bitchin' job where people look at me and give me money. You're staring! Give me money!
She adds, perhaps on a selfish level (LOL), that by getting into modeling, she could collect story ideas for manga she wanted to write. (What? Life can give you story ideas?)
When I was 22, I got into modeling so I could meet girls. I did. They were all 14... which would have been great when I was 15, but not so great as an adult. And yeah... I used be pretty when I was younger.
Now... as to why a self-professed manga nerd with a killer bod would enter the Miss Japan contest - well d'uh... she provides us with the nerdiest answer I've ever heard (good for her):
She says she entered the Miss Universe Japan contest to inform children around the world about Japanese manga.
OMG. If she gets asked a question about how she would make the world a happier place - she is dead. We can work on her answer.
Anyhow, should Yukimi not progress any farther in the world of professional beauty, she still has her goal of making it as a manga artist to fall back on. I'm pulling for you Yumiki! Hmm. That didn't come out the way I said in my head. Neither did that sentence.
Look at that. You put a pretty girl some 10,000+ kilometers in front of me, and I get all weak in the knees. Or is that arthritis?
As of this moment, Yukimi has only done a few bits of illustration work in and around her home prefecture of Mie, so the big-time world of professional manga still awaits.
I hear ya, kiddo... you and me both. My modelling career died at 22 when I suddenly became less pretty and more manly. You laugh, but I had a brief modeling career. To quote a MILF I know, "You should have seen me when I was younger. I was smoking hot." I have no idea what she means, because she still is, but whatever.
Yukimi-chan - just continue to do your best, have a great time as the reigning Miss Japan and e-mail me so we can work on some manga together. Or whatever. Whatever is good.
Cheers

I don't have glasses like that, so I guess I'm out. And I have better posture. And muscles. And I smile. |
