Here's some sad news... Donald Richie, one of the best writer's on Japan I have ever read, has died at the age of 88, passing away on February 19, 2013.

While I personally did not get the chance to meet and talk with such a revolutionary observer of post-war Japan and beyond, my friend at work, Michael Power, did on a few occasions, and it was he who introduced me to Richie's writings - brilliant and poetic stuff.
He shall be missed.
