A Tribute To Donald Richie

I never got to meet the late Donald Richie - author extraordinaire and genius Japanese movie critic - and in fact I did not know a thing about him until about five months ago.

But I'm glad I did.

For those of you who wish, I would direct you to the Midnight Eye, for their great retrospective on him. Richie had tremendous influence on bringing Japanese movies to the west and also his influence on generations of western writers on the Japanese cinema.

What I like about Richie was his ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple, understandable manner, which is something I always strive to do - sometimes more successfully than others.
