The above headline may sound dirty or sexual, but it's not - unless you happened to have your car meet one of these bad boys.
Meet the Honda Goldwing motorcycle, a Japanese police vehicle that also acts as a tow truck... or a tow bike... whatever.
Okay - maybe it's not a one-off. |
You might look at the attached photos and say "No way can a motorcycle tow a car!", but even if one discounts the fact that it is towing a small Japanese car, the Goldwing has a 1.8 Liter engine producing 100 Horsepower and a peak torque of 167 pounds/ft.
For those of you in the know - torque is as or more important than horsepower.
Of course, while the Goldwing, which weighs about 800 pounds (363 kilograms) does possess towing capacity, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. It will tow a small car - just probably not up a hill... or on a straightaway very quickly.
It looks pretty bulky. |
In fact, data suggests that the Goldwing possesses a towing weight limit of about 5,500 pounds (~2,500 kilograms). But again, you aren't going to do so at any great speed - maybe 32 kilometers (20 miles) per hour.
I would imagine, because of balance issues, that one would have to be a damn good rider!
Anyhow - this is not your standard Goldwing bike! Apparently a Swedish company (or just one guy) called Orsm designed it and modified it. Looking up the company name, however, may take you to a porn site - so you are warned!
Is this Megatron or Optimus Prime? |
Does it exist in reality - or is it a one off? I'm pretty sure these aren't Japanese cars in the background... Chinese, maybe?
Regardless... it is at least based on a Japanese motorcycle. Possible uses could be to tow small cars out of illegal parking spots in narrow Japanese streets?
It's not new - postings on this date back to 2007 - but I was just shown this today by Cathy at my work. Thanks Cathy - and Barb, too! Better late than never, I suppose.
Cheers
Andrew Joseph
