Okay... I haven't seen anymore bits of Japanese translations in my Star Trek episodes, but then, the week is young.
What I did find in the first season episode entitled Shore Leave where two instances where Japan trampled all over the world of Star Trek.
In this episode of the original series, the USS Enterprise star ship finds the perfect planet for a shore leave - no people, no animal life - only a planet with grass, rivers, trees, rocks, hills, and of course a perfect amount of breathable air.
And, while the planet seems perfect at first, strange things begin to appear... strange things that appear to be secret wishes come true of the first few crew members on the planet.
While the first anomaly appears to be a large white rabbit with a pocket watch being chased by a pretty blonde girl (Alice in Wonderland), things soon become more dangerous - and and Japanese - and even more dangerous Japanese (even though that is not a grammatically correct statement, I'm leaving it because I'm writing a 2,500 word magazine article in four hours).
First, in the photo above and just below, we see Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu of the USS Enterprise being stalked by and then forced to fight a Japanese samurai warrior. Naturally, his phaser gun doesn't work, making it less than a fair fight considering how sharp a katana sword can be.
Later, as seen in the photo below, a Japanese Mitsubishi Zero WWII airplane comes in for a strafing run at a couple of crew members we never see in another episode again.
Of course... if I was to examine the look of the airplane... I would say it doesn't really look like a Zero. The area behind the canopy looks off. Just saying, is all.
That's all for now. I gotta get my Wheaties in yet another magazine interview.
Ugh. No rest for the wicked... and I don't think I've been particularly wicked lately.
Mores the pity.
Cheers
Andrew Joseph
